Caring For Your Dog's Paws

Did you know that your dog's paws are very sensitive? Your pet can get very painful burns and abrasions on his paw pads by running and playing on harsh surfaces. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to help protect your pet's feet.

  • Choose pet safe de-icing products. These do not contain harsh chemicals that can irritate your pet's paws. They're also safe for your canine buddy to ingest, so you don't have to worry about him swallowing toxins if he licks his feet.
  • Moisturize your dog's paw pads. Just like human skin, dogs' paws can get very dry. You can use paw balm or Vaseline to protect them.
  • Nail trims. Overgrown nails can easily tear on things, which can cause painful infections. They can also make your dog distribute his weight improperly.
