Dogs and Snake Bites

Snakes can be dangerous creatures. If you’re out and about with your dog and your dog is bitten by a snake there are a few things you should do right away. Immediately call your vet to inform them of the snake bite and follow their instructions. Some things to keep in mind ahead of time includes having a plan ready if you and your dog come across a snake. You can start by finding out what snakes are common to your areas and learning to recognize them so you can identify the snake that bit your dog. Keep your dog leashed when hiking and avoid snake infested areas when outdoors. If your dog is bitten, call your vet and take him to the nearest veterinary clinic immediately. Do not apply a tourniquet and do not attempt to suck the venom out. Both of these actions may cause even greater damage. Learn more here or consult with your Pet clinic Columbia MD.
