Sleep Patterns and Dogs

Dogs like to sleep a lot. If you’ve ever owned a dog you’ve probably noticed that when you’re not out walking, playing with them, or feeding them then they’re probably sleeping. Did you know that dogs typically sleep 12 to 14 hours a day? Not only that, but some breeds sleep longer than other breeds. Large dogs sleep longer than small dogs. A Boxer will sleep more than a Toy Poodle. Likewise, a Great Dane will sleep longer than a Boxer. Puppies will sleep much more than adults or seniors. In fact, a puppy may sleep around 18 to 20 hours a day. Seniors need much more sleep as well since their bodies are slowing down. This doesn’t mean your puppy or senior will sleep those hours straight through. They like to break it up with cuddle time, potty breaks, and feedings.
