Can Dogs Have Ice Cream?

Are you hot outdoors? If so, tend to one your dogs are extremely hot as well. During the hot weather, we like to give ourselves and our dogs a cool treat. We may opt for ice cream, but can our dogs have ice cream too? Always consult with your vet ahead of time if possible. As a general rule of thumb, however, your dog should avoid ice cream and other dairy products. For one, ice cream is high in sugar, and diets high in sugar have been known to cause dental problems, diabetes, and obesity in canines. Two, ice cream also contains lactose, which is another form of sugar that most dogs have trouble digesting. Your dog may end up with diarrhea or vomiting because of the ice cream. Instead, feed a dog-friendly ice cream or even frozen yogurt. Learn more here from your veterinarians Norwalk, CA.
