Health Issues in the Airedale Terrier

When you hear the word ‘terrier’ as in canine terriers you may think of a small or medium size dog. However, the Airedale Terrier is a large terrier that can stand between 22 and 24 inches tall and weigh between 40 and 60 pounds. This large pup is playful, intelligent, skillful, versatile, and fast. Airedale Terriers typically have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years. The breed is known for his days as a military messenger dog for the British Army in World War One. President Harding also had an Airedale Terrier around the White house in the 1920s. The breed is a great family dog. This terrier needs lots of room to run and play. Due to the dog’s size it has been known to develop health issues such as arthritis, bone and joint issues and hip dysplasia. Click to learn more or call your veterinarians Lakeville, MN.
