Ways to Keep Your Cows Cool
Did you know that when the weather gets warmer you should find ways to ensure your cows are staying cool and comfortable? First, your cows need to be hydrated throughout the day. Make sure they have access to fresh water all day. If you have a large pasture then keeping more than one watering area may be useful. On hots days, especially, check the water throughout the day to make sure it’s still full and fresh. Cows need to stay hydrated while grazing all day. Hot days can cause dairy cows to lose their appetite which can lessen milk production. Beef cattle may stop eating which could cause weight loss. Keeping them cool can help ensure this doesn’t happen. Some farmers have installed sprayers or misting fans to run frequently to cool off their cows as well.
