How To Trim Your Pet Bird's Wings

Bird owners should know how to trim their pet’s wings properly. Over-trimming and under-trimming can lead to undesirable consequences. It is advisable to wait until your pet bird is mature enough before the first trimming of the wing feathers. Young birds should be encourage to fly so they will have stronger muscles and know how to land properly and safely. These can be a big help to them when their wings will be trimmed.

The time between trimmings does not have any definite time frame. In general, interval between wing trimmings may be from several weeks to months depending on the growth of new feathers. The feathers that have been clipped will eventually fall out and new ones soon start to replace them.

If you are not sure how to do it, you should ask a groomer or your Bel Air, MD veterinarian to show you how it is properly done. Call your vet right away!
