Heartworm disease is very serious and in some cases can be fatal. The best way to protect your dog is to have him tested yearly for heartworm disease and have him on a monthly prevention medication. By testing your dog regularly for heartworms, your vet can hopefully detect the presence of the disease at an early stage in which treatment is much for successful.
