How to Wean Puppies
Weaning puppies should start around three or four weeks of age. So what does it involve? First, talk to your vet about the weaning schedule and make sure you ask any questions you may have about the process. Start at three or four weeks of age by separating the puppies from their mother for a few minutes at a time. Gradually build to a few hours at a time. During the process you want the puppies to learn that they don’t need to be dependent on the mother’s milk. In fact, you may want to start introducing moistened dry puppy chow around this time as well. The whole weaning process should last until about seven or eight weeks of age so don’t rush it. Each time the puppies are separated give them moistened kibble and water. Give your veterinary clinic Bend, OR a call anytime you need assistance.
