Keeping Your Guinea Pig’s Cage Clean

Guinea pigs are relatively clean critters, but they do live in cages that can get dirty quickly. If you don’t want your furry friend to smell, and you don’t want your house to smell, it’s important to keep the cage clean.

Bedding should be changed out and the entire cage wiped clean at least once a week. If you notice that the bedding becomes soiled quickly, especially if you have more than one pig, you may have to clean twice a week.

Litter boxes can help. Place boxes in the corners of the cage and anywhere else your critter likes to go potty. It’s much easier to dump a small box than it is the entire cage!

Another tip is to keep an eye on the water bottle. A leaky bottle can make the bedding wet, which can make things stink.
