Picking Up Your Guinea Pig

Your guinea pig is pretty sturdy but you could injure him if you handle him roughly or he could die if you drop him. Thus it is important to learn to pick him up improperly. Ensure that your guinea pig is comfortable with you before trying to pick him up. Talk or sing to him softly while sitting close. Drape your hand in the enclosure for exploration and try hand feeding him. Act efficiently when you pick up your guinea pig. Lift him with one hand under his chest just behind the front legs and use the other hand to scoop up his rear end. Once clear of the enclosure, pull your guinea pig close to your chest to keep him from wriggling away. Be prepared to put him down on a safe surface rather than dropping him. Always supervise your guinea pig when he is outside his enclosure. Learn more from your pet clinic Santa Rosa, CA.
