Helping your snake get used to being handled

Bringing a snake into your life is a great way to get to know an animal and you are eager to learn about your new addition. However, you know she is a rather solitary creature by nature. How can you help her get used to being handled?

Your new companion needs you to take the time to gradually help her get used to being picked up and interacting with others. This will take some time, so you will need to be patient with her. Be aware of how often you pick her up as well as how long you hold her for, as you will need to start with shorter periods of time and work up to longer ones as she grows more comfortable with you. Be sure to stay near her enclosure at first so she can still be in a familiar setting while getting used to your attention. For more information, please contact your veterinarian Marion, IA area.
