What are Common Symptoms of Seizures?

Did you know that seizures can happen to dogs no matter their age, breed or sex? Sometimes seizures happen because of medical issues already effecting the dog while other seizures happen as the result of genetics or even a side effect of certain medications or foods. Common signs or symptoms of seizures differ from dog to dog. The more general symptoms could include abnormal behavior, howling or whimpering, excessive salivating, chomping, chewing, involuntary urination and involuntary defecation. If your dog has been known to have seizures, try to record how often they happen and the different symptoms experienced. Record what your dog was doing before the seizures occurred as this could help your vet further investigate the seizure activity. Some breeds that have been known to have more seizure activity than others include Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Poodles, Keeshonds, Beagles, Dachshunds, Irish setters, and Cocker spaniels.
