Hamsters and Pregnancy

Hamsters are nocturnal creatures that love to stay up most of the night eating, playing and burrowing around in their habitat. Hamsters are small but they are full of energy and especially enjoy exercising on their wheel. Hamsters do well in pairs, but you should make sure you have two males or two females unless you want to have babies. If you have a male and female then watch out. Hamsters have a gestation or pregnancy term of around 15 to 20 days. This enables a female to give birth roughly 20 times per year. Research shows that temperature can play a role in determining the sex of the babies. Warmer weather tends to produce males whereas cooler weather produces more females. There are about 4 to 6 babies per litter. You can learn more by calling your vet West Bloomfield, MI.
