It's Time To Change Your Overweight Pet’s Diet

There are many important reasons why you should consider making a change in your pet’s diet. One of these is having a pet that is overweight or obese. Excess weight is often a result of consuming more calories than what the body needs each day. The excess calories are then stored in the body as fats. But obesity can also be caused by certain medical conditions such as Cushing’s disease or hypothyroidism. Pets that have been spayed or neutered are also more prone to piling on the pounds especially if the calories they are consuming each day is still the same before they underwent surgery. The removal of their major reproductive organs during spaying (females) or neutering (males) mean that behaviors fueled by sex hormones, such as roaming, heat cycles, etc. cease and the pets are not as active as before, which means they will need lesser calories than before. This is one important reason to make a change in your pet’s diet.

Before making any changes in your pet’s diet, you should always consult with your veterinarian Coppell, TX.
