Does Your Pet Bird Need A Nail Trim

Nail trimming of pet birds is important to the bird’s health and comfort. Although the task is not without its challenges, it is very necessary.  Here are some important signs that your pet is ready for a nail trim:

• A change in the bird’s perching behavior – You may notice your pet favoring one foot or there is a change in the way the bird carries itself.

• The bird’s skin may appear dry or rough, and there may be scabby patches. When there is an itch anywhere in the bird’s body, they use their claws to scratch in an effort to alleviate the discomfort. But when their claws are overgrown, they may scratch themselves too hard, which can cause abrasions and/or bleeding.

• The bird’s nails appear excessive in length. Knowing what is normal when it comes to the length of your pet’s lengths will enable you to determine if your feathered pet needs a trim.

Sudden changes in your pet’s health and/or behavior warrants an appointment with your veterinary clinic Cameron Park, CA.
