Cleaning your Guinea Pig’s Cage
If you own a guinea pig, it’s important to know when, how often, and how to clean your guinea pig’s cage. Most guinea pigs should have their cage completely cleaned out once a weak. A complete clean out includes washing water bottles, feed dishes, and toys if necessary. The bedding should also be completely dumped out and replaced. Some owners place a layer of newspaper on the bottom of the cage and then layer it with bedding. This helps keep the smell down and makes for easier cleaning. The cage should be wiped down before adding new bedding. On a daily or every other day basis, you should spot clean the guinea pig’s cage. This means scooping out excessive wet spots and poop. Some owners find it helpful to do it the same day of the week (i.e. every Saturday). For more tips, call your pet clinic Fox Lake IL.
