Not Your Average Shepherd

The Anatolian Shepherd dog is classified by some as a shepherd and others as a mountain dog. He’s definitely a mix of both as he has unique characteristics of both breed types. The Anatolian is a rugged, muscular, thick built dog that is agile, fast, and quick to see and hear when danger is approaching. He thrives on his work and that must always include the job of protecting. This large breed does very well on working farms and hobby farms protecting livestock. They love to run, herd their livestock, and play rough. They do well with children and other pets, but need constant supervision. This independent breed is best to be left alone with his work. The Anatolian can grow between 27 and 29 inches and weigh between 80 and 150 pounds. For more information about this breed, consult with your Pleasanton, CA veterinary clinic.
