Hypothyroidism in Dogs like Toy Poodles

Hypothyroidism is a illness that usually affects medium to large size dogs, but it can surface in smaller dogs like the Toy Poodle. This condition is when the thyroid glands don’t produce enough T4 and T3 hormones. These hormones are needed to regulate the metabolism among other things. When there isn’t enough produced, the dog can present symptoms like lethargy, weakness, weight gain, hair loss, excessive shedding, etc. The condition is often referred to as Thyroid Hormone Deficiency. If your Toy Poodle has any similar symptoms to the one mentioned then you should contact your vet to schedule an appointment. Your dog may or may not have Hypothyroidism, but it’s good to have him checked. Dogs between the ages of 4 and 10 are the most common to show symptoms. Causes for the illness can include a variety of other health factors. Talk with your vet Riverbend, ON to learn more.
