Woods Safe To Give To Your Chinchilla

Chinchillas have a strong instinct to chew; chewing on something helps keep their teeth well-trimmed. Like other rodents, the teeth of chinchillas never stop growing throughout their lifetime. The best way to encourage them to engage in this natural behavior is to give them wood to chew. But not all woods are safe for chinchillas, as some can be toxic to them. Some woods that are safe are crabapple, blackberry, cottonwood, elm, sycamore, and magnolia, just to name a few. Steer clear of branches from cedar, citrus, cherry, redwood, and other types of evergreen trees. If you come across any wood that is being sold, make sure that you know what it is made of and it has not been treated, painted, or glued. Avoid using plywood, particleboard, or other materials that have been treated when making an enclosure for your pet.

Sudden changes in your pet’s health and/or behavior should warrant an appointment with your vet clinic Tipp City, OH.
