Keeping Your Cat Flea-Free

Your cat will scratch, chew and lick herself excessively if she becomes infested with fleas. This can cause her to lose hair and her skin can become irritated skin. More importantly, fleas carry disease that can make your cat very ill. Indoor cats can get fleas too. Fleas get into your home as they hitch a ride on other pets or on your clothing. Fleas on outdoor cats, squirrels or other wild animals can jump a great distance and make their way inside. Check your cat often for evidence of fleas and flea dirt while brushing or combing her. A monthly flea prevention medication can protect your cat if used consistently. You can rid your home of a minor infestation of fleas by vacuuming frequently. Avoid re-infesting your home by throwing the dirt outside. Wash cloth items your cat lies on, especially her bed and yours. Learn more from your veterinary clinic Cy-Fair.
