Degenerative Myelopathy in the Weimaraner

DM or Degenerative Myelopathy is an incurable disease that affects the spinal cord and the nerves. The disease can create complete loss of mobility and numbness or loss of feeling in the legs. Although there is no cure, treatment can be provided to help prolong a comfortable life. If your canine is having mobility issues, please contact your vet. DM can affect all breeds no matter the age or se, which makes the Weimaraner extremely vulnerable. DM can be fatal, a chronic, progressive, degenerative disease that leads to eventual paralysis. Symptoms are often not identified or recognized until later in the disease’s process. Those may include lack of use of legs, lethargy, etc. Some dogs may simply have trouble moving about while others may progress into complete stage of being paralyzed. Talk to your veterinary clinic Glendale, AZ to learn more about this disease and how you can help.
