Increasing the Intensity of Your Dog Walk

Your dog needs exercise to keep healthy. Exercise helps prevent obesity. It keeps his muscles and bones strong and flexible. Regular walking is great exercise while preventing opportunities to socialize and bond with you. However, some dogs will resist walks. Others purposely keep the pace slow. To increase the intensity of your walk, work to increase the distance and the pace. Exercise your dog when he is alert and energetic. Start walking and then start going just a little faster. Encourage and praise your dog to keep him moving. Resist stopping since you might struggle to get him moving again. Your dog probably knows his normal route well. Thus trying another route that is longer than your normal one could help you go farther. Walk in a loop since at the halfway point, your dog will need to walk home.
