How Often Are Dogs Vaccinated?
Most dogs are vaccinated once a year at their annual exams. Puppies receive a series of vaccines on their initial visits to the vet and are then placed on a vaccination schedule. Start vaccines often require follow up vaccines to complete the series. Your vet will be able to tell you about these vaccines and let you know when they are given. Besides the first set of vaccines for puppies, there are a few core vaccines that are given annually including the rabies vaccines, the canine parvovirus vaccines, distemper, and canine hepatitis. Some dogs that will be boarded or groomed in a salon will also receive the Bordetella bronchiseptica vaccines as well. Each of these vaccines are usually updated at yearly exams. In recent years the rabies vaccines has developed into a more effective vaccines and can now be given once every two to three years.
