What is White Line Disease in Horses?

Horses are susceptible to a variety of illnesses and diseases. It’s important to make sure your horse is examined by your vet at least once a year if not twice to ensure your horse’s overall health and wellness. One disease that horses can get is white line disease. This refers to the white lines or space on a horse’s hoof that lie between the outside of the hoof wall and the sole of the hoof. Some refer to it as the area where the hoof wall meets the sole in turn creating what appears to be a white line at the point where they meet. When this area is damaged due it can allow for fungus or bacteria to enter causing the hoof wall and sole to separate. This can cause infection that can travel through the hoof wall and eventually into the hoof. Talk to your Pickerington, OH vet to learn more about this disease.
