Can I Use Petroleum Jelly on My Dog ?

Your vet can tell you if you should use petroleum jelly (i.e. Vaseline) on an area of your dog. In general, petroleum jelly is safe to use on cuts and scrapes of dogs as long as the area is not within reach of your dog’s tongue. Your dog should not eat or lick at the petroleum jelly as it could cause harm. One place you can apply it is to your dog’s bum. For instance, if your dog is scratching his bum after pooping check the area to see if it needs to be cleaned or if it’s red or irritated. Clean the area with warm water and dog shampoo if necessary. Pat the area dry. Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to help soothe the irritation. If your dog is scratching him bum on the floor a lot then there may be something else going on and you should contact your call your veterinarian Oakville ON
