Feeding Puppies

Like their adult counterparts, puppies are very sensitive to sudden changes in their diet. At 7-8 weeks of age, they undergo the weaning process and puppy food is gradually introduced into their diet. To make puppy food more palatable, soaked the kibble in warm water to soften the food because dry kibble can easily get stuck in the throat of the puppy. Many experts advocate variety in pet food even at a very young age. It helps prevent the dog from developing fussy eating habits later in life. However, it should not exceed 10-20% of the total amount of the daily food ration. Some dog owners practice giving regular puppy food during the week days and adding extras during the weekend. Some recommended extras include finely chopped chicken wings, green veggies that have been boiled or osterized. Always remember to introduce these foods gradually into your pup’s diet and in very small amounts only to avoid digestive upsets.
