How to Exercise Your Horse
As the Mr. Ed theme song goes, “A horse is a horse of course…” You can tame him as much you want and love on him like a big dog, but at the end of the day he is still a wild animal. With this in mind it’s important to make sure your horse has exercise daily. Horses should be turned out 24/7 if possible. If not then they should at least have 10 to 12 hours a day outside of the stall. This may not be pasture time especially during the winter months. This may include simple exercise time in an indoor ring. Whether you ride your horse, walk him, lunge him, or just let him run around (ask for permission first), it all counts as exercise. Your best veterinary clinic Westminster, MD may recommend at least 30 minutes to an hour at least three to four times a week of exercise.
