How to Make Your Senior Dog’s Dry Food Softer

If your senior dog is having trouble eating his regular hard or dry food then you may need to switch to a wet food or canned food. However, not all seniors will switch. They may be used to their dry food and turn their nose up at the wet food. To help make your senior’s dry food more moist and easier to chew or gum at (if he has little to no teeth), simply add hot water and allow it to sit for about a minute. Next, drain the water. This will make the food soft, but not so soft that he turns his nose up at it. You can also add a treat or even some chicken on top to entice him to eat the half moist half dry food. Give your dog a few meal opportunities to adjust. If he refuses to eat or still has trouble chewing, please call your Ashburn, VA vet.
