Can Dogs Get UTIs?

Yes, dogs can develop UTIs or urinary tract infections just like people and other animals do. If you think your dog has a UTI look for the following common symptoms: inability to urinate or urinating small amounts numerous times, blood in urine, dribbling or leaking of urine, increase in drinking water, fever, etc. Call your vet if you notice any of these signs. Do not self treat or delay calling the vet. Your dog may have a simple UTI or something else. Your vet will need to run blood work and a urinalysis to discover the source of the symptoms. Most UTIs can be treated with antibiotics. Frequent UTIs may require a diet change or further examination as they could be a side effect of another medication or an illness. Consult with your White Rock, TX veterinary clinic for a diagnosis and treatment options for your pup.
