How to Treat FeLV

The Feline Leukemia Virus, also known as FeLV, can affect cats no matter their age, greed, or sex. There is sadly no cure for FeLV. Because of this, it’s important to have your cat tested for FeLV and vaccinated against the virus if possible. For cats that have FeLV the best way to help the virus is to detect it in the early stages and provide effective treatment. For instance, if the FeLV has caused lymphoma then your cat will need to be treated with chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. If your cat is simply FeLV positive with no other active illnesses, then treatment may simply include keeping your cat away from other cats to avoid contracting other illnesses. Diets may include vitamins and other nutrients to help build your cat’s health and fight against the suppressed immunes system that FeLV causes. For more treatment information, talk with your Lakeville, MN vet.
