Hamsters and Their Teeth

Did you know that a hamster has 16 teeth? It may not look like the many from the front because he usually has two or four prominent teeth showing when he eats. However, he has a mouth full of teeth inside his mouth. If your hamster starts refusing to eat his regular pellet food try offering him something soft or a liquid to see if that makes a difference. If it does, your hamster may be refusing the harder food because his teeth are bothering him. You will need to call your vet and schedule an appointment for your hamster to have his teeth examined. Sometimes a hamster’s teeth will fall out on their own and relieve the hamster of any pain or discomfort.
