How to Potty Train Your Puppy
Some owners will take their puppy out every two hours to keep him from having an accident. Overtime, the puppy will be able to get every three hours then four hours without an accident. Other owners may take their puppy to the door every two hours and encourage him to go outside on his own to potty. If he potties the puppy is then rewarded with a food treat. This teaches the dog to associate going to the bathroom not only with going to the door to go out but also with a reward which can encourage consistent behavior. If your puppy has an accident you may want to put him in timeout to associate the accident with punishment. Contrary to popular belief, it is not recommended that you rub your dog’s nose in the urine accident and shame him. For more tips, give your vet Newmarket, ON a call.
