Preventing Your Dog from Jumping Up on People
Your dog most likely jumps up on people because he was encouraged to do so when he was a puppy. However, this isn’t so much fun now that he is an adult. Thus you need to stop this behavior and give him something else to do. Whenever your dog starts to jump up on you, turn around quickly so that he falls to the floor. Don’t make a fuss but when all four feet are on the floor, give him a treat and praise him. Practice this as often as needed and ask all family members and trusted guests to follow this procedure too. Soon your dog will get the message that jumping up on people is not allowed. Anticipate when your dog may jump up on people and insist that he sit by you. If your dog is sitting close to you, he can’t be jumping up. Learn more from your veterinary clinic White Rock, TX.
