Preventing Your Dogs from Fighting

When dogs live together, they need to establish their positions in the group and develop relationships with each other. To help prevent fighting, you need to control the group while establishing your position as leader. Your dogs must learn to respect you and other people in your home. Consistent obedience and behavior training is a good first step. This training must come from a position of kindness and including your dogs as a part of the family. Punishment and cruelty will undermine training and your leadership role. Anticipate situations that could upset your dogs and cause a fight. Work to determine which dog starts the fights most frequently. Examine what triggers fight in your home – food, a toy, a certain area of your home or even your attention. The fights will decrease if you prevent or manage the triggers. Learn more from your veterinary clinic Norwalk, CA.
