Prepping Your Bird for Winter

Making a few adjustments to your bird’s habitat can keep him warm and happy in the winter months. First, if your bird lives on a porch our outdoor area you will need to plan to bring him indoors. If your bird tends to make a mess outside of his cage (i.e. throwing bird seed everywhere), consider placing his cage on a newspaper so that it will be easier to clean. If your bird sits on a stand, place the stand on newspaper to keep the floor clean. Make sure your bird is in a warm area of your home away from drafts and away from heating vents. If your bird seems cold, you can place a towel over his cage for small intervals throughout the day or night. Make sure your bird drinks plenty of water in the water as the dry weather can cause dehydration. For more tips, talk with your vet Cherry Hill, NJ.
