Gross Presents from Your Cat

Your cat may honor you with presents of dead birds, rodents, insects and other gross gifts. Your cat may be attempting to include you in her hunting party and sharing her prey with you to indicate a successful hunt. Cats in the wild will sometimes capture more food than they can eat. These cats may bring the extra food to other members of the family. Thus your cat may be ensuring that you get enough to eat. These gross presents may also be a sign of your cat’s gratitude for feeding and caring for her. Work hard to not look overly surprised but dispose of the gift quickly. Bringing you presents is an instinctual act so never punish your cat when you find these gifts. Don’t shout or wave your arms since this can inadvertently encourage your cat to bring you more presents. Learn more from your Pleasanton, CA veterinary clinic.
