What to do If Your Horse Throws a Shoe

Does your horse have shoes? If so, you’ve probably gone out to the paddock to retrieve your horse on occasion only to discover that he’s missing or thrown a shoe. This may not be a big deal unless your horse is medically in need of a shoe and is unable to walk without it. If this is the case, call your farrier immediately to report the thrown shoe and schedule a time to have the shoe put back on. If your horse is wearing shoes to protect his feet from the grown or to enhance his work performance then he will be fine until your farrier can come out on a non-emergency call. If your horse is wearing other shoes, however, he may walk a little unbalanced. If possible pull the other shoes or call your Marietta, GA veterinary clinic and schedule a time for the vet to pull the shoes (if your farrier is unavailable).
