Taking Care of Your Dog in Below Freezing Temperatures
If you’re expecting a hard freeze or low and below freezing temperatures, make sure you prep your dog for the weather change. Sometimes sudden or abrupt changes in weather can make our pets sick. If your dog is sluggish, make sure he’s warm enough and drinking plenty of water. If he is lethargic call your vet. Make sure you don’t leave your dog outdoors for long periods of time. Remember, if it’s too cold for you then it’s too cold for your dog. For smaller dogs like Chihuahuas or Toy Poodles, you may need to provide them with a winter coat or sweater when doing outdoors. A light sweater may be needed indoors as well. Larger dogs like the Golden Retriever or Husky have plenty of fur to keep themselves warm for short periods of time outdoors.
