Your cat and purring

Your cat is a big part of your life and you want to understand her as best you can. This makes you wonder – why does she purr?

Purring is a behavior that your pet engaged in as a young kitten and continues to take part in as an adult. The original purpose of this was to communicate with her mother that she was well cared for and content at the present moment. She likely came to associate purring with this feeling of relaxation and will take part in it when she begins to feel this way or when she wants to bring herself to this point. This is why you will often hear your pet purring when she is getting ready to settle in for a nap or when you are soothingly petting her.
