What to do if your Cat is Limping

If you see your cat walking with an unusual gait she may be injured or favoring her leg for some reason. Observe her for a time to determine which leg may be giving her the problem. Carefully expect the leg by gently lifting it and gently pressing on the paw pad. Feel for stones or pebbles that may be stuck on the pad causing the limp. Feel up and down your cat’s leg to see if she reacts in any way indicating a pain or pressure point. Try and prevent your cat from jumping, running, and playing too hard. Rest may help the leg if it’s just a sprain. If your cat continues to limp for more than a few days and doesn’t appear to be coming out of it, please contact your Aurora, CO veterinary clinic to schedule an exam for a closer look and further treatment.
