Your Cat’s Whiskers

Your cat’s whiskers are thick, specialized hairs that are connected to highly sensitive nerves. The whiskers give your cat enhanced perceptive abilities. Your cat’s whiskers will grow to roughly the width of your cat’s body. Thus your cat can use the whiskers to determine whether she can fit into small spaces. If her head and whiskers fit through the opening, her body will fit through as well. The whiskers can help your cat determine height and distance, allowing her to make leaps from surface to surface with ease and accuracy. Your cat will use her whiskers to sense vibrations so she can identify the exact location of prey whether it is a mouse or your foot, even in the dark. Never trim your cat’s whiskers since this will cause confusion and disorientation. Old whiskers will fall out on their own to be replaced by new ones as needed.
