Bringing a New Cat Home

If you’re going to add an additional cat to your family, make sure you introduce him to the current cats in your home slowly. Have the cats meet outside of the home on neutral territory so neither side feels a need to defend territory. This will ensure the cats are more focused on a meet and greet and not a fight to protect their land. If possible, allow the cats to have a few ‘play dates’ before the new cat moves in. If this isn’t possible, make sure they have supervised together time as well as some separated time in the beginning to help them both adjust. The new cat should have his own litter box, food bowls, and toys in the beginning. The cats will most likely eventually share, but let them work that out on their own.
