Evacuation Shelters for Dogs

If you live in an area that’s prone to emergency evacuations due to weather, fire conditions, gas leaks, etc. then you should plan ahead to know what to do with your dog when an evacuation is issued. Most towns, provinces, counties, townships, etc. have a plan in place for residents. Call local officials and ask them what shelters will be available and which ones will take dogs. You can ask local human societies and shelters about serving as shelters in emergencies as well. If you don’t find a place nearby, check local hotels that you may evacuate to. Find out which ones allow pets and plan to evacuate to that location immediately after an evacuation is issued. Please do not leave your dog at home. If your home is unsafe for you then it is unsafe for your dog. Talk with your veterinarians London, ON for shelter listings as well.
