Cleaning Your Hedgehog’s Eyes

Cleaning your hedgehog’s eyes can be a difficult task primarily because these creatures are so small. It’s important, though, to make sure the eyes are clear and free of any type of build up of eye gook. Eye gook from watery eyes may appear as a crust in the corner of the eye. Wiping at this daily can help break it up and wipe away with a simple warm and damp cloth. If they crustiness won’t wipe away easily, try using a vet approved eye solution to wash the eye. Pet eye wipes are also available in pet stores. Make sure you check to make sure the pet eye wipe can be used on small animals before using it on your hedgehog. Simply wipe at the corner of the eye gently to remove the crustiness. You may need to repeat this a couple of times. For additional suggestions, give your Farmers Branch, TX veterinarian a call.
