How to Bathe your Cat

Most cats do not need to bathed very often if at all. You should talk with your vet before bathing your cat. Cats have oils in their coat that protect their coat and skin. Bathing too frequently can strip the coat of these oils causing skin irritation and other skin related conditions. If you are going to bathe your cat, use a vet approved shampoo that does not reduce oil. Place your cat in the bathtub. Place a rubber mat down first to help prevent slipping. If your cat is small enough, you may find bathing her in the kitchen sink to work best. Turn the water on slowly at a warm temperature. Pour water over your cat, add shampoo and work into a lather. Rinse thoroughly. Squeeze the excess fur that hangs down to help release water. Towel dry before letting your cat run free. For more suggestions, give your veterinarians Leesburg, VA a call.
