Dealing with a Shy Cat

Your cat may hide out or she may only come out for certain people. She may be shy because of a lack of socialization or there may be stressful household conditions. Your cat may have been abused as a kitten. Or she could be afraid of her new home. Follow your cat’s lead. Don’t grab at your cat or drag her from hiding places. Consider using food treats to lure your cat out of hiding. She may come to you when you are distracted and seem to be ignoring her such as when you are busy watching TV or reading. Let her approach you and don’t make any sudden movements. Talk to her softly while she is hiding or during any attempts to interact with you. Use toys to stimulate your cat’s hunting instincts.. Continue working with your cat to gain her trust. For more information, contact your veterinary clinic Washington DC.
