Housetraining Tips For Kittens

Most pet cats that are brought to new homes instinctively use the litter box. However, it is still a good idea to introduce the litter box properly so your pet will know where to go to do his business. If you are planning to bring home a cat or kitten, choose one that is already litter-trained because they tend to have an easier time adapting to a new environment.

Before the arrival of your new pet, all kitty essentials must be prepared to prevent last minutes problems. Get the same type of litter that the kitten is used to; having something familiar can go a long way in adjusting to a strange environment. The lesser stressors a new kitten is exposed, the easier will be the adjustment period. If possible, have a room where your new pet will stay for a week or two while he is still adjusting. The room should already contain the litter box, food and water bowls, cat bed, and some toys.

A visit to your Mt. Airy, MD vet clinic should be on top of your to-do list once your kitten has settled in.
