Managing a Shy Cat

Your cat may hide or only come out to see certain people. A lack of socialization or stressful household conditions can cause this shyness. She may be afraid of her new home. Or she may have been abused in a former household. Follow your cat’s lead. Don’t grab at her or insist she come out from a hiding place. Food treats can entice your cat to come out of hiding. She may come out when you are distracted with TV program or reading or while pretending to ignore her. Protect your cat so she feels safe to explore. Wait till she approaches you. While your cat is in hiding or shyly interacting with you, talk to her softly. Use toys daily to stimulate your cat’s hunting instincts. Experiment till you find the toys your cat can’t resist. Be patient with your cat as you gain her trust. Contact your Roanoke, VA vet to learn more. Or set an appointment at this website Old Dominion Veterinary Clinic.
