Hairless Cats Are Defenseless To Environmental Extremes

Thermoregulation is one important function of a cat’s hair coat. Fopr the so-called hairless cat breeds, their bodies adapted by having a high metabolic rate so their core temperature can be maintained even without having a thick hair coat. With this in mind, it is no wonder why hairless cats need to eat more premium quality food than most cats so they can address the higher energy demands of their body in order to generate sufficient amounts of heat in the body.

Experts recommend that hairless cats be confined indoors because they are extremely susceptible to temperature extremes. Without a hair coat to protect their skin, they can easily suffer from sunburn when exposed to the sun’s UV rays; they can also suffer from hypothermia when exposed to the freezing cold.

Hairless cats can be prone to specific health issues, thus any change in your pet’s health and/or behavior should be checked out by your best vet Glendale, AZ.
